Pilates- Meditation Week 1 Email

Hi Everyone

Welcome to Week 1 of my Pilates- Meditation Series.

My main wish for you for these classes is bring you back to your centre. For you to become stronger, more resilient and more aware in the body, mind and soul.

My own story with Pilates is beautiful. It was the missing link for me. I had two years of back problems arising from chronic stress. I had literally reached the dark night of my soul with no end in sight and the beautiful magic of Pilates entered my life. I developed a powerful mind, body connection. It enabled me to return to my centre and to discover my own inner strength and power. It opened me up to the endless possibilities of life and therein started my beautiful journey in to the soul.  As Joesph Pilates once said “‘Pilates is complete coordination of body, mind and spirit.”

There is a beauty in Pilates that goes beyond physical strength, mobility and flexibility. There are very simple Pilates principles (breathing, concentration, centring, control, precision and flow) that when practiced correctly, teach us lessons about how, making small changes and adjustments on a regular basis, which can lead to bigger changes. How this manifests in my Pilates class, is that the energy and flow is very gentle and supportive, but each small movement done correctly, can lead to massive changes in the long run. So although an exercise may look simple, when practiced correctly can be challenging. As with everything in life, its through the challenges that we grow and realise our inner strength.

Another Pilates quote I live by is “You will feel better in ten sessions, look better in twenty sessions, and have a completely new body in thirty sessions.” At the end of each class, I will leave you with a small exercise which I would encourage you to try every day in between each class.

I am trained in classical Pilates mat, so this will be the main focus of my classes, however there will also be other aspects such as mobility and flexibility exercises. In addition, I will also incorporate exercises focusing on the specific chakra.  There will be small equipment (small ball, bands) used during this term. I will provide these for you.

I would deeply love for you to feel like a new person at the end of this term. To achieve this, I am also adding in the other elements of breathwork and meditation. In my work as an Energy Healer, a massive difficulty I see with my clients is in relation to their inner power. Every day as you go out to the world, in every interaction, conversation, act you perform, your power leaves you.  As the ancient Roman quote goes ““Dripping water hollows out stone, not through force but through persistence.”  So I want to help you call this energy back and to create a habit where you do this yourself on a regular basis.  We are working on our powerhouse, our centre, energetically and physically so this is very much part of that.

The other aspect of these classes are the meditations, where each week we connect in with a different Chakra. Your Chakras are spinning discs of energy in your body. They are said to be 114 chakras throughout the body but there are seven main chakras that run along the spine (see below). These are the Chakras that we will deal with throughout this seven-week term. Each of these seven main chakras has a corresponding number, name, color, specific location in the body and health focus.  When a chakra is blocked, its energy becomes stagnant and your ability to access the gifts associated with the sacral centre becomes difficult. So my aim throughout this seven week term is help you unblock your chakras and access fully the gifts, abilities and energies that are associated with these.

In Week one we will work with your Root Chakra (Muladhara), located at the base of your spine.  It provides you with a base or foundation for life, and it helps you feel grounded and able to withstand challenges. It is responsible for your sense of security, belonging and stability. When this chakra is open, you feel safe, at home in the world, and fearless. If blocked, it can lead to anxiousness, insecurity, aggressiveness, restlessness, lack of motivation, and indecisiveness. We will work with the sound bowl and the breath to help clear and invigorate your Root Chakra.

Information before the Class:

  • Please wear comfy clothes and layer up, you will get warm when we are doing the Pilates but you may be cold during the rest of the class

  • After exercise you will cool down quickly so it would be advisable to bring a blanket for the meditation at the end

  • Please bring your own yoga mat. If you don’t have one, please let me know as soon as possible and I can bring one to class for you.

  • Bring water and a towel

  • You will be performing the exercises with no shoes on, so you don’t need specific footwear. I would recommend that if you can, you wear a sports bra. You will be performing a lot of the exercises on your back so a normal bra can become very irritation. For that same reason, I would advise to avoid wearing clothing with pockets or zips at the back.  Wear comfortable sports wear.

  • Avoid eating a big meal 1-1.5hours in advance.

For a New Beginning by John O’Donahue

In out-of-the-way places of the heart,

Where your thoughts never think to wander,

This beginning has been quietly forming,

Waiting until you were ready to emerge.

For a long time it has watched your desire,

Feeling the emptiness growing inside you,

Noticing how you willed yourself on,

Still unable to leave what you had outgrown.

It watched you play with the seduction of safety

And the gray promises that sameness whispered,

Heard the waves of turmoil rise and relent,

Wondered would you always live like this.T

hen the delight, when your courage kindled,

And out you stepped onto new ground,

Your eyes young again with energy and dream,

A path of plenitude opening before you.

Though your destination is not yet clear

You can trust the promise of this opening;

Unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning

That is at one with your life’s desire.

Awaken your spirit to adventure;

Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk;

Soon you will be home in a new rhythm,

For your soul senses the world that awaits you.

Thank you again for commencing this journey with me. I really cant wait to meet you on the mat.

With Love and Best Wishes
